How do you make a gnome behave?

My garden gnome Dave has some very bad habits. He will not use the shed at the bottom of the garden and leaves nasty litle piles for me to clean. He also tries to roger the local cat population. How can I train this recalcitrant little fellow. His fellow gnomes behave.

He is the rotten apple in the barrel at the moment. digs up plants and is generally a nuisance. I put him in the bin but he climbed out and is hiding in the compost bin. Help please!

How do you make a gnome behave?
Two housebricks on the plums. Works every time. My delinquent dwarf got a bit gobby with me until i bricked his nuts. Now he's nice as pie
Reply:I recomend playing and singing with the song "The Gnome" to him, by Pink Floyd. Then he might chill. Anyway even if he does'nt, all the other gnomes are gonna love it.
Reply:Tell him that Santa will chop him up and give the pieces of him to the bad boys and girls this year instead of coal.
Reply:No place like gnome!
Reply:Perhaps you should send him for elfocution lessons. :-)

Confiscating his spade will stop him digging up the garden.

Failing that... stick him in the middle of the faery ring at the bottom of your garden... they'll soon sort him out!
Reply:I know how you could sort little Dave out; you could call the dog-whisperer in. Apparently it's all about expressing the 'dominant energy', once you express the dominant energy little Dave'll pick up on it and fall into line.

Good luck!
Reply:I don't know how to make Dave behave. My gnomes are all so good - i love chillin out with my gnomies!
Reply:Spank him soundly and then tell him that the travalocity gnome will come and rape him if he doesn't learn to behave.
Reply:He needs educating. Send him on a gnome economics course.
Reply:I have a cat, Tigger, who likes to roger garden gnomes. Perhaps if the two could be introduced, we'd all be happier. If they had babies, would they be combs or Gnoggies, do you think?
Reply:I'd send him off traveling %26amp; tell him not to come home till he learned better manners
Reply:Threaten to take away his rod, it worked on Carl

Good luck
Reply:Your gnome Dave is closely related to Gremlins. Gremlins existed during the 2nd World War. They also did mischievous things. They would foul up the guns on the airplanes. They would whisper lies into the ears of those who needed to hear truths. They would put runs in the nylon stockings (for those lucky enough to have nylon stockings), they would steal the ration stamps so that you couldn't buy enough butter or meat, they would foul up the engine in your car (although not many people had cars since most car manufacturers became factories to make war materiel), they would just try to make trouble any way they could.

Now your Dave obviously has learned a lot from my Gremlins. More power to him.

lol
Reply:Take away his fishing rod and send him to obiedience school.
Reply:Have you tried just sitting down and talking with him? You know, man to gnome....just lay it all out on the table. Maybe he thinks you like the other gnomes better and is trying to get your attention? Show a gnome some love!
Reply:Well my gnome used to go up behind people when they were at my door and crap on them and run away. All you have to do is verbaly abuse his hat! Gnomes are very sensitive about their hats. if this doesnt work throw him into an interdimensional portal, created by bringing the magnetic poles of two pigs together while you get a baby with a head simmiliar to that of a mouses focus its magic power on the gnome while clpapping your ruby slippers together and saying "theirs no place like gnome" repeativly untill he disapear. To get him back chant "i found the human g-gnome"
Reply:Spank him with his spade. If he still persists, put him on a traffic island in the High Street on a Saturday when the binge drinkers are in force. He will soon meet his match.

I blame the Gnome Office, decent gnomes don't get treated fairly nowadays, like us humans!
Reply:Speaking as a Dave myself, its not that the gnome part of him is misbehaving, its the Dave part.
Reply:I can tell Glenn from your palintive request that you are in a spot of bother.

I would recommend putting catnip in the gnomes shoes.

If this fails leave an anthrax letter in his shed and the problem should be sorted.
Reply:what you describe seems to be normal gnome behavior, its the other ones who are misguided, leave the poor litle chap alone, one day you will notice ther local cats are giving birth to kittens equipped with fishing rods and wearing red hats. good luck to him is all I can say.................
Reply:Its been my experience that you cannot make a Gnome behave, period. I suggest trying to get on his good side or investing in a fairy to keep him occupied.
Reply:i suggest you take him for some obedience training at the IDEAL GNOME EXHIBITION.

  • I have an old bike, what the hell do i do with it??

Its a rather skanky, old bike. Would probably fit a teenager. Worse for wear as well what with sitting in my garden shed for the past 8 years.

Probably needs dumping. Thing is, where do i take it? Surely there must be a recycling service somewhere for old bikes. The bike is that tacky it has a FULL, solid steel frame, solid steel forks, solid steel pedals, solid steel handle bars. Hell, it even has solid steel tyres its that scabby. So surely it can be melted down into something?

Im worried about taking it to my local bike shop for three reasons:

    1. The embarrassment of walking into the shop with said bike

    2. The quite probable rejection from the store staff when i ask them to take the bike off me for recycling

    3. (If 2. happens) The humiliating walk home sporting an embarrassing hunk of metal

What should i do? Do you know if bike shops offer any kind of recycling service? I live in a horrible hell hole called Milton Keynes if anyone knows of anything local.

    Thanks

I have an old bike, what the hell do i do with it??
I don't know about Milton Keynes but check with the local charities and aid societies, see if they can give it to a deserving soul.

And don't just dump it - make sure it's in working order first. Score some karma points.

How to call "911" - THE POLICE?

George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police who asked, "Is someone in your house?" and he said "No". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

The three police officers who were pulled off other cases to converge on the hostage call were not amused by the ruse, and arrested its perpetrator, Paul Weymouth, the 63-year-old pastor of Heights Christian Church, on charges of filing a false report. which wireless modem router will pick the the signal strentgh?

currently have the belkin wirless 54mbps usb adapter buy can not pick up the signal.

but if i take the computer into the house, computer picks up the wireless signal and i am able to acess the net.

which wireless router would pick up the signal from about 80ft away from the main router?

Which router for for virgin broadband?
Most routers will not handle this distance. You could try a range extender set up near the wall facing the shed. Preferably upstairs and near a window.
Reply:you would most likely need a Pre N router and netgear do a really good pre n router.

If you go to newegg.com and find a pre n router by netgear im sure it will be the right one.

    Garden Furniture?

We have a lovely wooden table and chairs but would they spoil if i left them out permanently for the summer? Theyre treated with something - ie they came like that. We hardly ever use them cos its a pain getting them in and out of the shed, but if i felt safe to leave them out we'd use them more! Its been so wet lately ..

    Garden Furniture?
I have wooden furniture out in my garden year long. If they are sealed with a non-yellowing polyurethane, you will need to add extra coats every other year or so to continue protection. Also, I purchased covers for my furniture that keeps the leaves off of them and adds protection during our rainy season. I have the ones with vinyl on the top but fabric underneath against the furniture. The ones that are only made of vinyl can trap moisture between the cover and wood which causes mold or mildew.

What tree is this? Thought a chestnut-look like conkers but nut inside is tiny, take it they're not edible

We thought that two massive trees at the bottom of our new garden were chestnut trees, now I'm not sure.

They look a little like conkers, but the case is much pricklier and the inside 'nuts' are tiny.

Definitely not horse-chestnuts, the nuts are much smaller.

The case is a bright green spike when on the tree.

Could anyone shed any light on this one, I'd really appreciate it !

    Many thanks

What tree is this? Thought a chestnut-look like conkers but nut inside is tiny, take it they're not edible
If the "nuts" are small and flat and you get about 4 or 5 of them in each shell, it's a beech tree. The nuts aren't poisonous, but they are nearly all skin so there's nothing to eat. People used to chew them before chewing gum became popular.
Reply:Sounds like a sweat chestnut and they are edible
Reply:Sounds like a sweet chestnut but don't go eating them until you are sure. Take some to your local garden center and they will advise you - take a small twig with leaves on as well if you can.
Reply:The bark on a sweet chestnut tree is very distinctive, it twists around the tree and almost looks like lattice work. The tree goes very 'lumpy' when it gets old and the lattice work is not noticeable anymore.

This link will show you the bark.

  • Death of the Dinosaurs, the real reason? Part 2?

One poster stated that the death of the dinosaurs was in fact down to an asteroid strike and not as I stated in my original post. I have carried out extensive experiments in my laboratory (actually my garden shed, Mrs Len was not to happy about my research techniques in the kitchen)

So, what happens if a big asteroid hits the Earth? Judging from realistic simulations involving a large hammer and a common laboratory frog, we can assume it will be pretty bad. Ipso facto, the dino's had no chance, I proved it.

Death of the Dinosaurs, the real reason? Part 2?
From the tell-tale layer at the KT boundary all over the world, it is shown that there was substantial settling of atmospheric dust and debris. This points to firstly an indication that fires broke out all over the world and secondly that the atmosphere was polluted perhaps for several years, causing a dramatic downturn in the global climate.

So, the dinosaurs and 50% of all species were not extinguished by a hammer blow as you ignorantly suggest.

I need some help on choosing the right dog breed. Can you help?

In the morning at around 8 I go to school, and my parents go to work. At lunchtime, my mum usually comes home to have lunch, so then she could give the dog some food and let it out in the garden. I come home at about 4, and I can take it for a longish walk.

We have quite a big house and a good sized garden. We live in a nice place with parks and things. So the dog has got a nice place to go for walks.

The dog needs to be good with children(I have a 5 year old brother), needs a medium amount of excercise, doesn't shed too much, is fairly intelligent and a great companion.

I have read about quite a few dogs on the internet and have come up with some. Please let me know about other dogs which I might like and comment on the ones I have selected. They are:

    Beagle

    Golden Retreiver

    Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

    Thank you so much!

And one more thing, how much excercise does a golden retreiver need daily and how much do they shed? Thanx!

I need some help on choosing the right dog breed. Can you help?
all the breeds you have picked are shedders, especially the Golden, big clumps of golden hair will be left all over the place if you dont groom your dog on a regular basis short haired dogs still shed but leave little tiny pointy hairs everywhere,if you dont want the shed factor maybe you should look into the non shedding breeds such as poodle, they dont shed at all,but are fairly active dogs and will need plenty of exercise

A golden needs lots of exercise they are an energetic hunting breed,as are beagles, plus beagles can get very fat very easy as they LOVE to eat,i don't know a lot about the Cavaleir but i am assuming it is the same they i believe they were originally bred for hunting and will need plenty of exercise as well

basicly any dog you get is going to need plenty of exercise to keep it healthy and fit,and most dogs long or short haired shed,so grooming is a nessesity,

my idea for you is to pick out the dogs that you like have a family meeting to choose from the different breeds you picked out see what top dogs are picked and do research, and talk to breeders, most breeders dont mind questions about their dogs,it lets us know that the people are really interested in this breed and are willing to go the extra step to take care of said dog all the dogs you have mentioned are lovely dogs and all make wonderful family pets it is really up to you to do the research and pick what dog its right for your particular family situation
Reply:i love bull mastiffs they are cuddly big dogs but need plenty of walks

good luck in your choice x
Reply:Sorry,i can't help you,i do not like dogs.I know cats if your interested in one of those, they are better pets..and you don't have too walk them, they use alitter box...
Reply:my labrador retriever is a great friend. shes great with my younger cousins and plays around a lot. i take her out on walks twice a day, one in the morning and one in the evening.
    Reply:no
Reply:to be honest we have raised pittbulls, no matter what media or people say they are great dogs. they are very well behaved, they train fairly easy, no matter what they say they are great with kids, we have four, and they have been around countless dogs. they are short haired, they do need daily exercise but not too much. and they go through about4-5 cups of food daily being full grown.they just want to please their owner. take care of them and they will take care of you.
Reply:I suggest that you go to the Purina website and take the questionnaire that they have. It will help find dogs that fit your requirements. Beagles love to dig. Retrievers chew until they are about 2 years old and they will always shed and need to be brushed daily. Cavaliers tend to have heart problems so.... Also go the the rescue society for each of the breeds that you are wanting to check out and you might find just what you are looking for. Check out the website. Good luck.
Reply:The ASPCA has published a book called "The Complete Guide to Dogs", ISBN: 0811819043, that lists every major breed, with an easy to understand guide to behaviors, exercise needs, lots of good info. You could go to a local bookstore %26amp; browse the book, or buy it for probably less than $15.00.

I would encourage you %26amp; your parents to look the local humane society or pound, too, where many purebred dogs %26amp; loving mutts end up because people can't care for them, or want to take the time a dog needs.
Reply:What size? Labs are wonderful pets but like most they shed. Poodle/Snauzer mixes are good dogs they don't need a lot of exercise and they are easy going dogs and they don't shed much. Be careful cause lots of people are allergic to spaniels. Go to a pound and give one a good home. And remember the bigger the dog the bigger their (you know what) and guess who will be cleaning it up?
    Reply:a small dog
Reply:i would recommend getting a miniature schnauzer. they're great little dogs and they dont shed. you need to get them groomed every couple weeks, but that's about it. get them a squeaky toy and they pretty much excersize themselves.
Reply:Check out UR local Dogs Homes/Pounds %26amp; shelters.

There R many dogs just waiting 4 a home.

Please consider this B4 U rush out %26amp; buy a puppy.

U'd B surprised what these poor mites have been thru %26amp; would really appreciate a second chance with an owner like U.

    Please think about it, huh?

    :)
Reply:Goldens shed a lot, and need lots of brushing becuse of their long hair. What about a lab? A beagle is also a good choice, but they do bark quite a bit. Considering your criteria, I would go to a shelter and get a lab mix puppy.

A great place to find puppies from shelters and foster homes is www.petfinder.com.
Reply:Try going to puppyfind.com you can read on the dogs. Also go to and thhttp://www.akc.org/at has all the info you need to read about a dog.
Reply:Here's a website that can help

    http://dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm

Just answer a few simple questions and they will suggest a breed that is right for your life style.
Reply:Golden Retrievers are very good with children. They tend to be expensive. When we have litters, males are usually 650 and females are 675. So they are on the expensive side if they are AKC registered. They do shed alot if you dont brush them on a regular basis like you should. They do need exercise, every dog needs that. A walk every other day and time for him to run outside each day should be enough. Every afternoon I take turns with my dogs on who is walking with my first. I have 6 dogs total and all get a chance to walk every other day. When I am home i allow them to run around in a pen I have set up for them in my back yard. They are truly great dogs though. And i reccommend them with children. I have a 2 year old brother, a 8 year old sister, a 6 year old cousin, 3 year old cousin and an 8 year old cousin that all come to my house during the day and the dogs love to play with them. Get one from a breeder though, pet store ones might not have the attention and handling that breeders give them.
Reply:u good knowing than me .
Reply:A golden retreiver is a wonderful dog and good with kids, but they are big shedders. My all time favorite dog is a boxer. We have had 3, all great dogs, very devoted to their family, and although a little rowdy they are very protective of children. They are also very intelligent. Another plus with a boxer is that usually they are not into doing a lot of barking. ( I am sure there are exceptions) All of ours were rare-barkers. I have had and been around several breeds of dogs over the years, but it is my personal opinion that boxers are one of the greatest breeds there are. Love them dogs!!!! They can be naughty when they are puppies though, but most dogs are for that matter!

Good luck with the puppy search!
Reply:we just got a sheltie pup. they are a minature collie. they are a very smart breed, and they are so good with kids. mine is very loving and playful. it doesn't hurt that they are so adorable, even when they have reached their full growth.
    Reply:Definitley golden retreiver

need to be brushed during summer to lose growth from winter...

i would put the shedding at minimal to medium
Reply:Beagles are fabulous dogs! But may I suggest you adopt an adult beagle - he or she would probably fit in better with your lifestyle, as it sounds like someone would not be home to constantly be letting a puppy outside and socializing it. I wouldn't get a beagle unless your garden is fenced -they WILL run off.

Golden retrievers are also great -real mushes. Again, I suggest adopting an adult - you're saving a life and finding an animal more compatible with your life. I found golden retrievers like exercise, and need it because they will become quite portly! Beagles also tend to become quite fat without exercise. Retrievers are wonderful with kids - I was raised by one in fact! I could do anything with him, and he remained as sweet as ever.

Both beagles and goldens shed tremendously, the only difference is the length of the hair that falls out!

As for the Cavalier King Charles - they're cute, but I've never owned one. I know that they can have tremendous health problems compared to the other two breeds. (I work for a veterinarian)

Ultimately, I would suggest you go to your local SPCA - you will fall in love with an animal, I guarantee it! You're saving a life, can see what kind of animal you're getting, can have it temperament tested with kids, and ultimately, will be saving money.
Reply:You can look up parent clubs for the breeds you've listed and do some research on the history and function of the breed. Read the breed standard. Also contact the parent clubs and let them know that you want to talk to breeders. Reputable breeders are knowledgeable and will answer your questions and will be honest about whether a dog is right for you or not. They should also be willing to answer any questions you have. Attend dog shows and observe the breed and talk to breeders. Some breeders may have some requirements for prospective homes that may seem odd, but it is because the breeder is concerned for the welfare of the puppy and knows the characteristics of the breed they have very well. For example, I have a high energy, scent driven breed that needs lots of exercise. They will run off when they get scent of something. One of my requirements for the prospective owner is a fenced in yard. This is not because I am hypercontrolling, this is because I want the family to have the pet for many years and not have it tragically struck by a car or run off never to be seen again. I don't think you should have a lot of trouble getting a dog since your home sounds great and you seem to know what you want and what fits for your lifestyle. There are benefits and drawbacks to each breed you have listed. My dogs need at least a 1 1/2-2 mile walk (as adults) or else they will be naughty. Puppies cannot be roadworked as hard, so shorter distances for puppies with lots of play time. A Golden is a nice pet. To minimize shedding, brush and comb the dog a lot so the dog does not accumulate dead hair and leave it all over the place.
Reply:King Charles. My parents have one and she is the sweetest thing. Very obedient, dependable, doesn't need constant attention (like cats). They are gorgeous, funny dogs.
    Reply:get Golden Retreiver

it is the dog for you
Reply:An adult Golden Retriever needs atleast 1 hour of really good (Frisbee, jogging) exercise a day, broken up into more parts. The more exercise the better. It also depends on the particular retriever: those bred for conformation will need less than those bred for agility, who will need less than those bred for hunting field work.

They shed a TON. EVERYWHERE and on EVERYTHING. The day after I got my Golden, I looked down and my entire body was covered with hair after five minutes. I looked at my husband and we both laughed and I said..."I think I own a dog now." Yeah. They shed a LOT.

Goldens don't do well, especially when young, if left alone. They aren't the kind of breed you can easily have if you have to be out of the house all day. That being said, tons of people do it. Good luck getting your dog!!

(PS: I actually chose between a Cavalier and a Golden in my final "decision" on breeds. Beagles require a TON of exercise. Cavaliers are good dogs!)
Reply:Great choices, Golden Retriever and Cavalier K. C. Spaninel would be the best out of the three. They both shed a bit, but with weekly to bi weekly grooming that will not be a problem. Both of these breeds need exercise, and mind stimulating games, but that could be as simple as a nice long walk, to a game a hind and go sniff. These breeds are extreemly willing to please and very drawn to human companionship. Very good dogs, just make sure you get them from good breeders. All you will have to decide is do you want a big or med/small dog. Both are excelent choices. I would however discourage you from the Beagel, they are great dogs, but they need a job, they are genitcally designed to have a job, hunt, sniff, tear up, dig holes, etc. and will find a lot of trouble when left to do their own thing home alone. They need a lot of training to keep their mind fresh, and are excelent dogs for some one who has a lot of time to spend with them or has a specific purpose for them (you can't beat a beagles nose). Another good breed of dog is Boxer, they are very eagar to please, extreemly smart, and love the company of people. They have a lot of energy so a good exersice routiene is needed, but they make fabouluse pets. Good luck
Reply:Spaniels, are really friendly %26amp; playful, but are a little too hyper and not as intellgient...Beagles and Golden Retriever are both wonderful dogs,,, and are more relaxed.. Although golden retriever probably sheds a good deal more..

The smartest dog is the border collie,,, its an amazing dog. The border collie is a fast learner,, and a good looking dog as well..Although they are more expensive, but well worth it. I also like the Siberian Huskie,, but its a really strong dog.. It also will require more food..

All these dogs are good....I think you will like any of these..
Reply:I do not know much about golden retrievers but I definitely know about Labrador retrievers as I have one too. Labradors are really cute as far as I know. They are known as the fishermen's dog as they can easily catch fishes in their mouth. Puppies eat about 4-5 times a day and as they grow in comes down to minimum 2 bowls and not less than that. They are restless. They are ready to play any game lifelong. Their lifespan is the longest of about 16 to 18 years as compared to the other breeds. They have smooth skin and fur. They are not at all ferocious. No matter what, they keep on playing non-stop. They are very obedient but not like german shephards which are the most obedient. But German shephards may bite. They cannot be trusted but in that case, A labrador is the most playful dog and loves to play with anyone. They are very determined in their duties as well as the best sniffers amongst all breeds. They are also known as the police dogs. They are so called as they are the best sniffers. They are very alert at all times. It is my advice for you to get yourself a labrador as it attains all the qualities required for a pet dog. I have a labrador retreiver which has all the qualities I have mentioned above. I treat him as my brother instead as a dog. I love animals that is why I am giving you the best choice of breed for YOUR convenience. This was my opinion to you. Otherwise all breeds are very good. But no dog is as playful as a labrador!!!. Enjoy!

phoned the police again. "Hello, I just called you a few

you don't have to worry about them now cause I've just

shot them all." Then he hung up. Within five minutes three

"Oh god. Yes I do. I do."

"This is what you have to do. Pull the handle."

    "What?"

Need permit for shed if i purchase this on amazon?

    http://www.amazon.com/2x4basics-Shed-Bar...

it is ridiculous to have to get a permit for a diy shed such as this one. Is it true?

Need permit for shed if i purchase this on amazon?
NO, you do not need a permit for any structure that is movable or temporary (no matter how hard to move). As far as I know this applies most anywhere in US
Reply:It depends on your city or township's ordinances. Most will require a building permit if you're putting the shed on a cement slab. It doesn't matter where you bought the shed. You could have bought it from Home Depot, Menard's or the guy who builds shed kits down the road. If you're going to permanently install it on a slab, you may need a permit (and it may raise your property taxes).

Check with a local lumberyard that sells shed kits. They'll know if you'll need a building permit or not.
Reply:I think you should call your local council or shire...

It might also depend on the flooring....I think if you are going to put concrete underneath you do

It almost would go under the same regulations as a cubby house or a garden shed.. or aviary... its not very big is it?

I would tend to say no permit would probably be necessary.. but its better to err on the side of caution and call your council
Reply:Most places in the USA you do not need a permit for a temporary building like a shed. The exception is when you put it on a permanent foundation. This makes it a permanent structure and may be considered in tax appraisal. Also if you run permanent utilities, running water or hard wired electric as opposed to an extension cord. These require permits.
Reply:It depends on your location and ordinances.

I live in NY and I am able to put a 10' x 15' building on my recreation land. No permit is required but it can not be cemented in the ground. A building of this size is considered a portable shed.

I plan on using this building as a pavilion for entertaining. I will be installing a 8' overhead door that can be opened to allow easier traffic flow when we are camping there.
Reply:What difference as to where it was purchased? If the local ordinances require a permit, you'll need to get a permit or they can place a violation on your property.

When i bring my canaries in from the aviary for the winter should i separate the hens from the cocks?

I have an open flighted aviary in the garden which i leave my canaries in during the warmer months. This winter i am going to bring them into the shed in cages. Should i keep the hens seperated from the cocks? As I will want them to breed next season.

When i bring my canaries in from the aviary for the winter should i separate the hens from the cocks?
Seperate them. They won't try to breed when the days get shorter and they go through their molt, but male are territorial sometimes.
Reply:seperate them. they don't breed in the winter and you will probably have healthier chicks if you breed in the spring.

  • Peeing in the yard while swimming in the pool?

Someone asked a question recently if it was ok that they allow their children to pee in the yard when they are swimming in the pool. One thing I hate more than anything is getting the house all wet and walking into a cold air conditioned house. I think it is perfectly acceptable to pee in ones yard as long as there is a fence or a shed to pee behind. I've even done this a few times while I am working in my garden. I am curious how many other ladies pee in their yard instead of going in the house? Do you let your children too?

Peeing in the yard while swimming in the pool?
Sounds unclean to me? How do you wipe? Also urine burns the grass, and draws insects and other vermin.

Is it really such an inconvenience to use the toilet like an adult?

Really as a mother you should be setting an example for your children, not acting nasty!

you should be ashamed of your self you are just down right lazy.
Reply:boys could do it easier than girls............you could always put a porta potty and a curtain
Reply:To me the only time it is acceptable to let your children pee outside, is if you are a long way from a bathroom. Such as camping in a remote area or fishing out in the middle of a lake. Not going inside is just plain lazy.
Reply:It's your property you do what you want.
Reply:When I was a child I used to swim at the neighbors and they had a nice big privacy fence..although we live out in the country...but we would go along side the pool where there was a private spot and pull our bathing suits to the side to pee instead of running in the house...this is what we were told to do...I dont see anything wrong with it...better than having to sit and dry in the sun before your allowed in to pee...seems to me when you are swimming the urge to pee is worse!!
Reply:I haven't peed anywhere other than in a toilet since college, but to each his/her own. If you are comfortable peeing in plain sight, why should you worry about it? I'm not comfortable doing it that way, but I do know a lot of men who are.
Reply:Its not unreasonable to pee in the yard. Nobody goes bananas when the dog does it so why should a human doing it provoke outrage?
Reply:I think its gross and would never do it or let my kids do it. Like the above poster asked how do you wipe yourself? ewwww as an adult you should know better and that is a disgusting habit to teach your kids!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I would never pee anywhere except a toilet unless it was an extreme emergency and I would otherwise pee my pants. And I wouldn't teach my kids to pee outside either. Where I live people are cited for things like this.
Reply:It's not right to let your children pee in the yard like a dog.
Reply:Children can get away with it, but you are indecent exposure waiting to happen. all it takes is for one person to see you and report you to the cops.

I understand you're not wanting the kids to go back and forth in the house, but instead of letting the just pee out in the yard (which is kinda gross too!) why not put up a small tent with one of those kiddie potties in it? They'll have privacy and won't have to go into the house.

and no I don'r pee in public and I never let my kids either.
Reply:I would say as long as no one can see you or the child peeing, it's okay. The ONLY thing is, do your kids know not to do this away from home? As long as they know it's ONLY okay at home, and out of sight of others, I think it should be okay. I also hope you are being private when peeing outside! It's a little more difficult for females. The only time I have peed outside is on a road trip and there wasn't a bathroom for about 20 miles. I pulled over in a dark area and I was in the middle of nowhere. I had to use the interior light of my car to see a few feet away from the car. A little scary in the dark but it was better than wetting myself!

P.S. Yes, I've let children do this when they couldn't make it to the bathroom. Once it got past about the age or 5 or 6, they had to use the toilet. It's also about age and bladder control.
Reply:i am a guy and i go inside .come thats nasty dry off and go inside besides its against the law. public urination is a felony as well as public nudity

My mae rabbit is aggressive and has biten members of my family. why was he like this and how can i change it?

I bought my male rabbit from a family frind who had it for a year. big mistake. he has never been nuetered and apparently because he lived alone with the person i bought him off, i cant put him with another rabbit. he keeps humping a football and shedding hair and while he was pretty tame and let me stroke and brush him when we first got him, he now makes a grunting noise, bites and wont let us near him. we're a loving family and try to give him alot of love and attention and open space to run round in, he loves running around the garden. he has toys, constant fresh food and water nd air and lovely warm huts full of hay. what have we done wrong that he's become so bad tempered and aggressive and how can we rectify it???? any help would be appreciated, thanks v much.

My mae rabbit is aggressive and has biten members of my family. why was he like this and how can i change it?
I agree with demon. get him neutered first and allow him a few weeks for his hormones to surge and calm down. Then go to a rescue to get him a neutered female. They will do a free bonding to ensure they get on well and won't fight before allowing them home. The female will have also been health checked and fully vaccinated. If you go to a shop, you may find you get a problem or unhealthy rabbit. Rescues know the personality's of their adoptive bunnies so can advise you which will be best for you, your bunny and your environment. And in the meantime can also advise ou on how to get back in your bunny's good books but really it's his hormones causing the main bulk of the problem. Good luck.
Reply:getting him neutered is going to help sooo much!!! after the neuter, the hormone calm within about 3 months. check out www.rabbit.org this website will give info on rabbit on every detail. good luck to you and your rabbit.

Reply:he sounds like a new zealand white that i had. he was like that and no-one could pick him up.

i put him in a pen with food and water and left him alone for a day to settle in

what i did next some will say i was cruel, i went to pick him up and he went to bite me so i slapped his nose, just enough to shock him not hurt him. i picked him up by the scruff of his neck, the skin there is loose and it doesnt hurt him, and held him untill he stopped struggling, then i turned him onto his back and cradled him like a baby then put him down after ten mins, i did it 3 times before he would let me pick him up with no problems, with him it was a dominance thing
Reply:getting him neutered maybe the best option, but i had same sort of problem with my girl rabbit. she attacked everytime i changed her food or clean her cage. well i read that the best way to stop this is to let the rabbit do everything with you. for example let the rabbit stay in the cage when you clean it, and also do not directly take your rabbit out of its cage the are suppost to get out them selves. cleaning the cage with her is now a breeze. good luck!
Reply:A new rabbit may be in order is you want a pet. He seems set in his ways. Rabbit stew is a good possibility, that way you could love him (mmm...delicious!) and make room for the next pet.
Reply:he is probably scared, hence the shedding hair. you should be very quiet and comforting around him. you should not be more than one person around him at a time. and always stroke him really slowly when he lets u.
Reply:I'd say getting him neutered would be the first step. Even though he's an older rabbit, it can still improve both his temperment and life expectancy. It also opens up the possibility of getting him a friend, which could also help to calm him down. The fact that he hasn't been with another rabbit before doesn't mean he never can, so long as you get him neutered. Contact rabbit rescues in your area if you're interested in getting him a companion or if you just want further advise on getting him to accept you again.

Please ignore these people who think it would be appropriate to cook your pet simply because he's somewhat agressive. I wonder what they'd suggest for an agressive cat or dog.
    Reply:time for the pot....I think
Reply:Definitely time for a visit to the Vet or put him out to stud to keep him happy!
Reply:I think that you should get him netured. its those dangleys that will create the hormone which will make him agressive. if they are removed then the problem should go away. looks as if you are giving him all the care and attention that he requires but i think he may be just getting a bit grumpy. i think if you get him netured then you would be able to introduce a female as well without fear of loads of little bunnies appearing, maybe a bit of companionship will be good for him as well.
Reply:It would be best to Neuter him. I have to male rabbits that were very aggressive but they got netured and they have calmed down, still very playful :)
Reply:Time to get mr bunny neutered. When he is grunting, does he run circles around you and try to jump over/on you?

Sounds like either dominance or mating behaviour. When a male rabbit picks its partner to mate with, they grunt, run circles, hop, jump over and nibble the other.

Shedding hair is normal, I wouldn't worry about that.

My rabbit is 6 months old now and booked in to be neutered in 2 weeks! I can't get peace to clean his room out without him running around me grunting and nibbling at me lol

    Good luck
Reply:Firstly you have done nothing wrong, we had the same problem, it could be one of three things,

ours had a vision problem so got frustrated and angry,

it could be sexual frustration try giving him a teddy or simular soft toy and see what happens or lastly and worse case Rabbits can have mental problems in which case there is not a lot to be done.

I would try the soft toy approach first and then the vets

How do i encourage birds to nest in my garden????

I live in the UK, I've got 2 bird boxes in my garden, one in a tree and the other on a shed but it's a big shed, theres 10ft distance between the two boxes i also got a bird table with bird seed feeders hanging off it and a bowl of seed on the table for the pigeons, and a bird bath about 4ft from the bird table. I do have pets but only 2 rabbits and a cavalier king charles spaniel but i don't think it's the dog that might be the problem cause they haven't been nesting in them for about 5 years and i've only had my dog for 1 year, the shed belongs to my neigbor and it right next to the fence that parts the our gardens, my neibor has put up a nest box above the entrance of the shed's door and they have had Bluetits nesting in it, could it be the direction the brid boxes are facing my neighbor's bird box is facing south and my one on the same shed is facing north and my other bird box on the tree is facing west. I seem to have all the birds need to make nests and rear young so please help

How do i encourage birds to nest in my garden????
If you are trying to attract bluetits into your nest boxes make sure that the hole is no bigger than 28mm. Birds will not nest in an area where they don't feel safe. The nest boxes should also be as far away from your feeding table as possible. If there is too much traffic it may be too hard for the birds to defend their territory.

You can also try providing some nesting materials near the nest boxes. Fill a basket or suet cage with straw, short pieces of yarn or string, animal hair, short twigs and moss.

    Good Luck,

    John
    Reply:Birds feed their young insects.

Add freeze-dried insects to your feeder table, starting in March. It could very well be the direction your birdhouses are facing; baby altricial birds can't keep themselves warm, and either need to be brooded, or need radiant warmth. You could always try moving them -- or put up more, facing in other directions.

You might also ask your neighbor if he feeds his wild birds anything special. Best of luck!!

    How to treat wrought iron?

I have some very nice antique pots in wrought iron stands and some ornamental screens in my garden. They are not painted and I like the slightly rusty effect, but I dont want them to rust away. What can I treat them with? Or maybe I should put them in the shed over Winter?

    How to treat wrought iron?
Jenolite. You get it from a car accessory shop. It combines with the rust and forms a skin that protects the metal. However does give a smoothish finish so it is best to try it one one piece first and see if you like the effect.
Reply:Untreated wrought iron will rust away eventually if left to the air.

Putting them in the shed will not help as this is still a damp environment.

If you like the rusted rustic effect then I think that you will have to expect them to erode, unless you paint them with a matt varnish that will keep them in the current condition but will help protect them long term.
    Reply:Linseed oil may help.
Reply:I'd put em in the shed overwinter. However, unless you clean them off and paint them, they will eventually rust away. Air itself can cause iron to rust due to the moisture it can contain. If you're not too attached to them, store them for the winter and bring 'em back out next year and let nature take its course with them. You'll have them for a few years. Then when they rust out, get rid of them. But if you want to keep them a long time, you'll need to use some steel wool or a steel scrubber, get the rust off, then prime and paint them.
Reply:Put them in the shed, and clean the rust off every spring.
    Reply:Linseed oil is good indeed.
Reply:you can spray them with an acrylic clear paint .if there is actually rust on them, well thats another story. i do not believe rust can be stopped. it is a corrosive process. i know they sell stuff to stop the process. i have used it but it turns the rust black so you will no longer have your rusty effect. however, i do not know if rustoleum makes a clear paint or not but if you spray paint clear on the entire pieces it will extend the life of the items you described. keep in mind too that rust eventually turns to rot. so you may want to treat it with rust retardant spray and then clear coat a few coats and you will have both for a very long time. if you are really fond of the rust, you can but rust colored craft paint. take some on the brush and basically blot all of it off the brush with a towel and then drag the brush across the wrought iron where you want the rust effect. then spray paint over it with clear spray paint.this technique is called dry brushing, which is just what it says. you start with a dry brush, tap it in a little paint and then blot the paint all off on a towel. there is just enough to give the tiniest effect that you want so that the peice looks weathered.good luck.
Reply:Paint them in matt varnish when they have the desired amount of rust on them

  • General Psychology:learning from experience?

Recently a local newspaper carried an extensive report on three fires that had been set in garden sheds. During the week after the report was in the paper, 17 more garden shed fires were reported to the fire department.Based on what is known about learning, you should conclude that many of the copycat fires that followed the original news report were the result of the process known as:

    a. classical conditioning

    b. operant conditioning

    c. vicarious observation

    d. observational learning Learning

    General Psychology:learning from experience?
C - vicarious observation. The copycats weren't actually present at the setting fire of the gardensheds. So they didn't directly observe it. But through the newspaper stories they experienced vicarious observation.

Letter from neighbours solicitor asking us to cut down tree?

We moved into a house last Friday. Yesterday we received a letter from a solicitor acting on behalf on our neighbours insurers (Northern Rock) stating that a tree in our garden is partly or wholely responsible for causing damage to their brick shed (which will have to be demolished).

(Our neighbours have obviously claimed on their insurance for the shed)

It's not a massive tree, but apparently an independent surveyor has said the roots of the tree go into their garden and are drawing water from the clay causing slight subsidence.

The previous owners our our property never mentioned anything about this, and I do honestly believe that they weren't aware.

The solicitor has stated that if we don't cut down this tree, then we could be liable for any further damage to our neighbours property.

I am aware that if we do want to cut it down, we have to get permission first.

Does anybody have any advice about this, especially on where we stand legally?

Letter from neighbours solicitor asking us to cut down tree?
your first port of call is your local council it may be a protected tree and it may be unlawful for you to cut it down.

if this is the case your neighbour will have the expense of getting the protection order removed this will be costly and your neighbour may have second thoughts and it will save you all the worry and cost.
Reply:if the shed is to be demolished then what is the problem, do they want to rebuild the shed if so then they will have to take steps to safe guard it.

it up to you, if your not bothered about the tree then remove it for the sake of peace but really they know of the problem if they want to rebuild the shed then its there problem
Reply:This sounds like a shot across your bow to frighten you into complying with their request.

I would ask them to prove that your tree is responsible for causing problems to their shed.

It can't have happened over night, the damage to the shed, why are they asking for you to cut down your tree now?.

The tree may have a preservation order on it, check with the local council.

Yes, trees do draw water from the soil, but other factors can cause subsidence as well. For instance, long hot dry summers, heavy rain that can affect the foundations of a building.

This sounds like frightening tactics to me. Ignore it and see what they do.

Remember, the burden of proof rests with them.
Reply:I think this is a good time to introduce yourselves to your new neighbours. Invite them in for a drink, or whatever, and discuss the problem with them.

I had exactly the same thing with my own neighbours. Their expert told them two trees in my own garden were undermining the foundations of their conservatory. I agreed to let them cut down the trees, but it didn't cost me a penny. Their insurers paid !

I reckon it is important to get on well with your neighbours, for all sorts of reasons. Use this opportunity to start off on the right foot.
Reply:I find it strange that your neighbours have waited till you moved in to do anything about this problem (what about the people you bought the house from?). My advice to you is to contact your conveyancing solicitor and ask what their advice is. It's going to cost you, either way. Best of luck.
Reply:You might find this interesting to read to find out a bit more where you stand while you're waiting to see the solicitor:

    http://www.gardenlaw.co.uk/trees.html

I do think you also have to try to find out though if the previous owners of the house had also been approached about this, and maybe won.

It sounds quite a complicated situation and I don't know all the legal stuff. You will see from the above link though that your neighbour would have had the right to cut the roots of your tree that were growing into his garden and under the shed, assuming the shed isn't right up against the fence.

The letter also seems a bit odd in that your tree is either 'partly or wholly responsible' for the damage, this sounds to me as though it could be something open to interpretation.

My feeling is that you shouldn't cut down your tree unless a solicitor proves it absolutely necessary, I have some experience of neighbours being a bit funny about trees anyway, fear of them getting a lot bigger, overhanging branches, cutting out light etc. Also the brick shed might not have been built properly in the first place.

Sorry not to be able to be of more help, good luck anyway in the new house!
Reply:Your neighbour has the right to demand the felling of the tree because of the damage it's causing. But the seller of the house should have told you about the problem. I think he knew. It didn't happen overnight and he had obviously been stalling until he sold the house. Your neighbour can only receive recompense from whoever own the house, and now that you are the owner, it's your problem. But it's remiss of the seller to hide it from you.
Reply:I can give you guidance but I really think you should have half an hour with a solicitor which will cost £25/£50. You must act.

Why does any sane person keep a dog?

The head end has three attributes:

Firstly it consumes valuable food, food which has to be processed, packaged and transported, wasting valuable raw materials and energy.

Secondly, it has the capacity to generate noise. Who has not been kept awake at night by someone eases dog yacking?

Thirdly, the head is equipped with a formidable array of teeth . Just the thing for ripping the face of a toddler (despite this I’ve seen dogs the size of a garden shed tied to a pushchair!!!)

The tail end: This has but one attribute and that is the discharge the food, consumed at the head end, over paths roads, parks etc. Apart from the obvious filth this excrement and urine carries harmful bacteria that can blind a child for example.

In between the head and tail we have a fee infested fur.

All this and it costs the owners a lot of hard earned cash in food ,vets bill etc.

Given the above, I really am totally bemused as to why anyone should keep a dog.

(you'll find accidents that do happen have explanations that usually put a human at fault somewhere along the line)... plus these teeth are also very good at dettering burglers.

    4. And all responsible dog owners will clean up after their dog. Therefore leaving any mess you see as the fault of the human rather than the dog. it's been a long time seen I have seen any mess on footpaths in my area at least.

    5. My dogs are frontlined and wormed every 3 months so no flea infestations for them.

    6. And they are well worth the money because on top of everything...

It's the other way around... the dogs keep me sane.

    1. Stroking them whilst they are on my lap is a calming influence after a hard day at work.

2.Walking them gives me exercise and fresh air so keeps me healthy and thinking clearly.

    3. Talking about my day to them and ranting about things means that I don't have to rant and annoy my friends so that keeps them happy and my friendships strong.

    4. They give complete devotion and unconditional love that is necessary if you are having a rough day.

there are more reasons I can think of but i think you'll see that I am a dog person and I'll pretty much always take the dog's side!! :)

Which is the cheapest internet router and the best?

D-link or net gear will probable be your cheapest, I never had a problem with either but I have had some friends have trouble with em. Linksys is a little more $$, maybe like 10 or 15 bucks more but worth it, I have never had or heard of anyone having trouble with them.
Reply:Go with Linksys! They are from the industry leader Cisco. I've worked for a Wireless internet company and we had many problems with D-link routers. Linksys will be a few dollars more but they are worth it. You can also readily find broader range antenna for Linksys routers at Wal-mart, etc. if the distance is not great enough.

Why has my cat suddenly decided she prefers outside to inside?

I acquired my from a cat 6 months ago from a cat shelter. She'd been abandoned by (or run away from) an owner who had taken the trouble to have her neutered.

Most of the time I was living in London, I kept her inside as my flat had nowhere to put a cat flap. Outside, the garden was shared by a number of other cats.

Since moving to Cornwall 2 months ago, and having a cat flap installed, she is now free to come and go as she pleases. Originally, she was very much an indoor cat, constantly coming to find me in bed, on the sofa, etc and curling up to sleep there. But over the last month, she has remained almost exclusively outside. She tends to stay within about 5 metres of the house, only really coming in to feed, after which she immediately leaves. She is perfectly friendly and affectionate when approached outside (or on the rare occasions she is inside).

The only thing that I can think may have happened is that she has got fleas.

Can any pet psychologists shed some light?

Why has my cat suddenly decided she prefers outside to inside?
    Hi there,

I don't think it as much to do with having fleas as it is to do with her liking the outdoors! :-)

When you lived in London, she probably did not wish to go outside because traffic noises (if there were any) and the other cats in the garden put her off. Now that you live in Cornwall, I imagine that it is more peaceful and that there aren't as many other cats invading her territory.

It's great that she stays within 5 metres of the house. That's where you want her to be, ideally!

Do you treat her for fleas regularly? If you do, she shouldn't have fleas. If you don't, I recommend Frontline either from your vet or bought online (you cannot buy it anywhere else). Apply this every month (or every 3 months if the spot on treatment is a long-lasting one) and continue to apply this for the rest of her life as a preventative. I have two indoor cats and was told by the vet not to bother with flea treatment because of this. Low and behold, my cats somehow got fleas. If I had followed my initiative instead of listening to him (!), I would have given him flea treatment regularly and prevented him getting fleas in the first place!

Your kitty is just enjoying being outside. If you are worried that you are losing your bond with her, because you do not see her as much, perhaps you can try to keep her indoors at night time, if you don't already. This is recommended by cat protection organisations, because so many more dangers appear at night time - animals, cars that cannot see kitty in the dark and even cat theft. You may also wish to have a message sewn around her collar which tells neighbours not to feed her - you don't want your beloved kitty finding a new home!

All in all, it sounds like you are giving your cat the very best life she can have and it sounds like she loves you a lot for it!

    xx Emmie
Reply:She wants a mate ... beware of kittens.
Reply:Mine spends more time outside during fine days and nights. It is a bit chilly tonight in London and is sat next to me now - which is an extremely rare occurence! Perhaps as the weather gets colder, yours will come in for a bit of warmth.
Reply:You should let your cat out for example in the morning then after few hours call her back every day at he same time and give her some food and then keep her inside. Cats are like children you have to teach them some roles they cannot do what the like all the time.
Reply:cats like it outside mine the same but in the winter he is a indoors cat but during the summer he came in to eat and went out again still it will soon be winter then we will see him all the time cats are not silly
Reply:I'm sure she's had a taste of freedom, so to speak, and enjoys it!

Seriously, the outdoors right now to her is very exciting and interesting. My cat loves going out during the summer, and is perfectly happy to spend the winter indoors without even asking to go out.

If you'd like her in a routine, so she knows when it's outside time, get rid of the catflap and let her out at similar times each day. Call her in for dinner at the same time each day and then keep her in overnight.
Reply:She probably enjoys the difference in scenery and the lack of other cats around may also be why she is more comfortable outside more than at your last home. You should be able to tell if she has fleas, if unsure, please buy a flea comb sold at pet stores and groom her with it to make sure. Fleas wouldn't keep her from coming inside, though. You just want to ensure that she isn't suffering from fleas, or have the possibility of fleas infesting your home (they bite people too.) If you would like her inside more, you could maybe bring her in at night by offering her food, and closing the cat flap for the evening. Find other things she enjoys such as brushing or petting and encourage her to come inside while you do these things. I am surprised she would choose to sleep outside unless she is completely comfortable, and maybe she is. If she is safe from strangers, strange animals and running away, I would just let her enjoy herself outside. Pull up a chair next to her and enjoy it too!

    best wishes

Reply:my cat is an inside cat and he wants to go outside every once in awhile too. he was raised inside since 6 weeks old. he is also nuetered since 12 weeks old. i asked my vet and he said that it is just his personality and he is curious about outside. i dont like him getting out cause he has no claws either.
Reply:Cats are naturally outdoor and independant animals. In Cornwall epsecially, the outdoor environment is invigorating and interesting for a cat, or any animal. Lots of different smells, lots of places to explore. Plus there's local wildlife, birds, mice etc to chase. Just make sure she's wormed frequently and leave her to it. Cats need a lot of freedom.
Reply:Outside is probably a lot more interesting! Some of it may just be her personality. I had 3 indoor-outdoor cats for many years. One preferred to be outside most of the time (even in the rain!), one preferred to stay indoors and had to be coaxed out to get some exercise, and one was somewhere in between.

I did insist they all come inside at night. I trained them to come to the sound of a spoon tapping the side of the cat food can - then I'd feed them and close the cat flap for the night.

I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with fleas.

Buy sachets of rat poison from your local agricultural merchants (fraction of high street prices and much stronger) and lay them where pets can't get to them. They will disappear and when they stop disappearing you'll know the problem's been fixed.

They will only eat mice or rats. Keep him by his self so he does not get stressed out and stop eating. I'd suggest keep him in a 20gallon long tank for now with a heat light on one side, a watter dish in the middle and a hide on both sides. Keep the hot side about 88F and the cold side 74F.

    Window Boxes?

    Hi,

Yesterday I purchased daffodil, crocus and tulip bulbs which I plan to put in window boxes the weekend.

Do I just plant them randomly in the boxes or should some be deeper than others and do I put the boxes in my garden shed until spring time?

What about some kind of plant food to put on them?

Not much of a gardner as you can see!

    Thanks.

    Window Boxes?
I would suggest you plant your bulbs directly in the soil (not a window box), add some bone meal, and water them.

Tulip bulbs are planted deeper than the others you have mentioned. Crocus bulbs are not usually planted deep at all. Daffadils are usually not planted as deep as tulip bulbs either.

    --v----v
Reply:Daffodil and crocus bulbs need to be planted in a hole as deep again as themselves. Tulips need to be planted deeper than this or else they will grow very week and spindly, (you can't really plant them too deep but normally I would say twice as deep as the bulb). Plant them directly into the window boxes and leave them outside, (in all weathers), by next spring you should have some lovely flowers.

I always sprinkly the soil with some general fertiliser and when the bulbs have finished flowering take off their heads and leave them to die back naturally as this will help to feed the bulbs ready for next year.
Reply:Bulbs should be planted at a depth of twice their height - daffs and tulips should be spread about 3 inches apart but croci can be planted two or three together to make a good display (but at least 1 inch from the other bulb types).

Before planting make sure you have some drainage crocks at the bottom then some high quality compost (for food) then some gravel to help drainage and then fill with ordinary potting compost/soil mixture.

Water the bulbs in - they don't usually need to go in a shed to overwinter - they are very hardy.

    How to call the Police?

George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked 'Is someone in your house?' and he said 'no'.

Then the policeman said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be arriving when available.

George said, 'Okay,' hung up, counted to 30 seconds, and phoned the police again.

'Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all." Then, he hung up the phone.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response Unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed!!

I built all the doors, windows, cabinets and furniture in my new home and rental properties, and in my mom's and sisters house, so I guess it was worth the expense.

The funny thing is, if I need a repair on any of my houses, I call a repairman. I enjoy building the new stuff but hate doing repairs.
Reply:Yeah I have a toolbox within a toolbox in the bed of my truck, has almost any tool for any job.
Reply:Yes I do and I have 2 junk drawers full of tools too.. LOL
Reply:I make a living with my tool boxes. My entire basement and garage are both full of tools.
    Reply:Yes I do.

Is it illegal to keep a hedgehog that has been injured by ticks and fleas?
I'm really sorry to hear about the poor hedgehog :(

You did all that you could and I'm sure the little guy is thankful for letting him go in peace :)

    RIP Little Guy!
Reply:I dont think it's illegal to keep a hedgehog and removing the ticks you have done a good job but removing the fleas could be tricky. You could either take it to the RSPCA or the vet and they both could tell you to let a wild creature go free.
Reply:It is illegal but I would take it

to the RSPCA to see if has

    no infections.
Reply:Well done on your quick thinking to remove those ticks.

Sounds like it was anemic from all that blood sucking.

Thats fine to keep it in your garden.Hedgehog rescue ask the public for secure gardens to re home their hedgehogs.

My concern is that they have to be a certain weight to hibernate %26amp; if their not they keep them warm %26amp; awake for winter.

I would contact an hedgehog rescue %26amp; get some advice on feeding %26amp; housing. It would be a shame to lose the little man after you saved his life.

Reply:strange--- h hogs dont get fleas
Reply:maybe contact RSPCA who could inform you better
Reply:Keep it until it is 100% recovered then let it go and be happy for all the good you did.
Reply:It is natural for them to be covered in hundreds of ticks - it isnt the ticks that have injured it. Let it go - it will die in captivity. How the hell did it become house trained? I hope you've de flea'd your carpets!
Reply:What's illegal? It not like your keeping a tiger! I did the same for a baby hedghog I found in my inlaws back garden. I lived in a flat at the time and my husband hated it. I called it Penny and fed her up over the winter on cat food and our leftovers and even dug up some worms for her from the inlaws back garden! She got big and in late spring I released her back where I found her. Your doing no harm as long as your long term intention is to release it back into the wild, not sure that an enclosed garden is a good idea because it will want to breed, as nature intended. Well done to you.
Reply:no its not but when it gets better u have 2 release it back where u found it

How can I make a moist hide for my Armadillo Lizard? PLEASE ANSWER?

My Armadillo Lizard is shedding and someone recommended that I give it a moist area to sleep in with some damp moss but the pet store and garden store are closed. What house hold items can be used to make a moist hide? I use cage carpet as substrate.

How can I make a moist hide for my Armadillo Lizard? PLEASE ANSWER?
use some moist shreds of kitchen towel and put a dark container with an entry hole in it this will keep the moist paper towels moist and shaded to keep it cool. as im guessing this is a temporary set up so when your down in your local pet store ask the person in the store with the most experience about it and they should be able to give you the best advice aas to wat to use and where the best spot would be to keep it inside the tank. hope this helps i dont actually have any experience with armadillo's but i do have a lot of experience with various other reptiles.
Reply:Easy.... Take a tuperware container and turn it upside down and cup an entry hole. Then piles some moist paper towels inside and voila you have an awesome hide a hut!
