My 2 Rabbits have been practically wild for over 3 months - is that ok?
Honestly there are many dangers to keeping rabbits outdoors. However it does sound as though you are generally caring for them. The only thing you should watch for is predators, and also be aware that rabbits who live outdoors have a life expectancy of about 5 years, and house rabbits of about 8-12 depending on the breed of the rabbit.
Reply:Sure. Sounds fun for them. One thing more I'd watch out for. Do you have any hawks where you live?
Reply:Hi i have 2 netherland dwarf rabbits and 2 dwarf lop rabbits (dont get along!!) i also let my rabbits 'run free' in the garden because that is what they do in the wild. As they dont get along, I have to let them out separately!! so that means locking one pair away in their hutch and they hate it! they scratch at the wire! I send them to bed at night but dont lock them away in their hutch. It is all very secure. I also think that my rabbits love their 'lifestyle' and totally agree that you are giving your rabbits the best life!
Reply:You've given those bunnies the best life they could ever wish for - which makes you a bit of a superstar.
I let my own bunnies roam free during the Spring, Summer and most of the Autumn. When the weather gets really cold I lock them away in the hutch. I've done this for about five years and the buns are happy and healthy. Don't get me wrong, they don't enjoy being picked up as much as a hutch rabbit would but they're happy with each other.
I always thought bunnies were best in the garden where you can see them enjoying themselves. Why keep them otherwise.
Good for you.
EDIT: I was going to say they get wise to cats after the first couple of encounters but it looks like you're way ahead of me.
Reply:No. They yearn to be in a nice stew. Let them have their wish.
Reply:Yeah it sounds good to me! I used to let my rabbit roam in the garden in the summer while I kept an eye on him and he loved it. U put them away at night though? Wanna be careful for cats and foxes and that!
