Male cat spraying outside?

There are a lot of cats in my local area, including my own kitten. There's a local Tom, who I think has been neutered, but who still sprays outside our backdoor and around our garden shed.

The smell is pretty unpleasant. Is there any way to stop him from doing it?

My kitten's female and has been spayed, so he's not after or anything

Male cat spraying outside?
Cats who have been "fixed" will still spray. It's a myth that fixing them will stop this behavior. Cats spray to mark out their territory. THere isn't much you can do to stop them. Be thankful that it's happening outside, and not inside. I have 8 cats, most of them spray outside, but a couple spray inside. I have had no luck with the stuff that you get from the pet store that is supposed to stop this behavior. You can try it. You just have to be sure you clean the area really well to get rid of any scent that is already there. Go to your local pet store and talk with the sales clerks. They can help you choose the right products for your needs.
Reply:If he is spraying then more than likely he has not been fixed. Start spraying him with a water bottle every time he comes around.
Reply:in most areas its legal for you to catch him and take him to the shelter, pound or whatever...

a TOM is an Un-neutered male...
Reply:If a tom cat sprays he is telling other cats that this is his territory. If you can try to get a picture of the cat or if it has tags look at them and tell the owner about it. If you are afraid about your cat try to keep it indoors your cat might get confused if you let it smell it too much. Also try something like a gate or keeping your doors closed or for now just some air freshener and if you need to it you catch the tom cat doing it try squirting it with water or air freshener, just to tell it this is my yard and its not okay to do that.
