I was recoating the shed and came face to afce with the 'wee beastie' anyone know what it is?
'Big' spider by British standards anyway. Garden spider about 2" across brown and yellow spots on abdomen.
It is most likely Araneus quadratus (four spot orb weaver). They grow really big sometimes and are very variable in colour.
Reply:Probably an Argiope Spider.
They are mostly a tropical and sub-tropical spider, but northern Europe gets them too, probably as stowaways aboard ship or on the Gulf Stream.
In hotter climes, they get very big, hand sized. Sometimes they are called 'Cane Spiders' in the Caribbean, along with the Golden Web Spider which is also known as a Cane Spider in some places.
Reply:Sounds like a european garden spider, heres her picture:

Reply:Probably a golden orb weaver . They're quite common . If it's black and yellow , you can be quite sure , that's what it is .
