How can I get the smell out of my badly tanned, brand new leather shoes?

I have this beautiful pair of new leather shoes, which just so happen to be the most comfortable ones I've ever had.

Sadly, they smell like dead possums.

I've been trying deo spray to no avail, and letting them air out in my garden shed for six weeks (now I can't return them).

Nothing helps.

Will blowing cogar smoke at them for an evening take care of the problem?

I'm perfectly willing to invest in a few good cogars and a bottle of cognac to take care of the problem.

Or do you have a better idea?

How can I get the smell out of my badly tanned, brand new leather shoes?
Try bleach mixing with vinegar (20%bleach %26amp; 80% vinegar) and spray in the infected area. This will kill any bacteria/fungus that cause the bad smell.
Reply:You could try sealing them with a leather sealant or saddle soap or mink oil.

No the cigar smoke nor the cognac won't help the smell.

You could also try baby powder or corn startch or baking soda sprinkled in them - that will absorb odors. Give it a try.

***are you sure it's not your FEET that SMELL up your shoes?***
Reply:You smell with your nose.

As do possums with theirs.

Your shoes stink.

The odor comes from the tanning chemicals used in their manufacture.

Spread some saddle soap all over them.

Then....

Place your shoes in a bucket of water for a few days then let them dry at 'room' temperature.
Reply:sprinkle baking soda inside and leave overnight. this acts as a deodorizer.
Reply:don't they have dr.sholl's odor eaters over yonder?
Reply:i had the smae problem about a year ago.. they were the best shoes i ever owned but the smelled like a certain illegal herb was smuggled in them..

i found the best thing to do was put about 3 dryer sheets in each shoe and place them in the dryer.. now i didnt just throw them in.. i actually have this cool attachment for my dryer with holds things in the middle of the dryer so they dont tumble around break your dryer.. so if you have that... i would that..

if not... a blow dryer would probably work.. just set it up so the blow dryer is blowing on them for about 20- 30 minutes..
