Madison Square Garden, NY , My Chemical Romance Concert on May 9th 2008!?

so i got 3 pit tickets to the My Chemical Romance Concert in NY on May 9th.

We live in Ct , so i will have to drive a little ways and then take the train.

I/We have never been to NY before, and my parents and my sister say they would never go to NY , expecially at night. They are making me a nervous wreck.

I was debating on either comming home after the concert or staying at a hotel and comming home in the morning.

My question is for anyone who has been to NYC.

Is it really a bad place to go? Crimes? Should i be scared?

Thanks anyone who can shed some light on this for me.

no way! nyc is getting all the bad rap but that's not true. just be careful as you would be in ct. enjoy!!!!!!!!!
Reply:You have nothing to worry about, at least not around MSG. Just earlier this year I saw Linkin Park there, and then walked all the way to 60th after the concert, no problem. If your planning on going home that night and your worried, just get on a highway as soon as possible. No one can rob you when your driving fifty miles per hour.
Reply:you shouldnt drive just take the train. itll leave you right in penn station then just walk across the street.

like any big city, there is crime but no more than any where else. really if you look like a tourist and you look vulnerable, something might happen to you. the best advice i can give you is to look like you belong, keep you belongings close to you at all times and always know where you are and where you are going. you dont want to be wandering around.
Reply:id say definatly take the train. parking is such a hassle. as far as safety its not as bad as you think. the crime level has gone way down in the past years. i would just go home after the concert but you will get home late. just because hotels are reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllly expensive.
Reply:My sister's going to that concert but we live on Long Island.

It's not bad.

You take the train to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden is right there in Penn Station.

You will never touch a New York City street

*Unless you want to go sightseeing or something*

:]
Reply:OMG GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO CARES ABOUT SAFETY!!!!!!!! THEY ARE THE MOST AWESOMEST BAND EVA!!!!!!! RISK YOUR SAFETY!!!! YOU GOTTA SEE THEM!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:NYC is a very safe place. In fact, the crime rate is very low. The multitude of people, however, can make it seem like a very intimidating place. My best advice to you:

Know exactly where you are going.

Plan your trip in advance.

Review the subway map so you know exactly which subways to take (if you are going to Grand Central, you will need to take the Times Square Shuttle, then the 1 or 9 to Penn Station)--or take a cab if you don't mind spending the extra $$$

Have a great time!

I'm sure you will fall in love with the city, just as easy as I fell out of love with it (as a native)
Reply:alright trust me on this I know about NYC. ( i live on long island)

its not that scary. as long as u dont talk 2 anyone ull be fine.

i suggest u take the train home because hotels in NYC are EXPENSIVE! trust me i know.

ill be at the same concert lol im excited.

im going with my friend and my older brother so i feel safe. as long as u stay with ur group you'll be fine.

dont be scared new york city is beautiful. especially times square. just be careful in penn station. hold onto ur pocketbook tightly and do not leave cash in ur backpockets. put it in ur front pocket!

good luck

peace %26amp; love :-]
Reply:Like everyone has been saying, it's just not true that NYC is unsafe at all. ESPECIALLY since you're going to be in Midtown, which is one of the most populated areas in the city (as in people will be on the streets). I can't even imagine you having a problem there. I've walked home from the Garden from some KNick or Big East basketball game countless times, and up 8th and 9th avenues, which look shady, and have never come across the slightest trouble (I'm 16). You won't even be doing that, as your hotel/train won't require walking too much (if u take the train you won't walk at all it's in Penn Station).

Plus, I've walked around plenty in worse neighboorhoods at day and night and have never been mugged or anything (knock on wood). I'm just saying that to prove that being mugged is more of an exception than a rule. Honestly, your family saying that they would never go anywhere in NYC especially at night is just ridiculous. It's like a naive view of some big bad city billowing smoke and filled with gangs and criminals. Which isn't even close to any sort of truth in any neighboorhood, let alone Midtown at MSG (Don't talk to anyone? Is she serious?)

Just responding like that cause I guess I feel like I have to defend my city and my hometown's honor. So anyway, in conclusion, you're safe.
