How do i encourage birds to nest in my garden????

I live in the UK, I've got 2 bird boxes in my garden, one in a tree and the other on a shed but it's a big shed, theres 10ft distance between the two boxes i also got a bird table with bird seed feeders hanging off it and a bowl of seed on the table for the pigeons, and a bird bath about 4ft from the bird table. I do have pets but only 2 rabbits and a cavalier king charles spaniel but i don't think it's the dog that might be the problem cause they haven't been nesting in them for about 5 years and i've only had my dog for 1 year, the shed belongs to my neigbor and it right next to the fence that parts the our gardens, my neibor has put up a nest box above the entrance of the shed's door and they have had Bluetits nesting in it, could it be the direction the brid boxes are facing my neighbor's bird box is facing south and my one on the same shed is facing north and my other bird box on the tree is facing west. I seem to have all the birds need to make nests and rear young so please help

How do i encourage birds to nest in my garden????
If you are trying to attract bluetits into your nest boxes make sure that the hole is no bigger than 28mm. Birds will not nest in an area where they don't feel safe. The nest boxes should also be as far away from your feeding table as possible. If there is too much traffic it may be too hard for the birds to defend their territory.

You can also try providing some nesting materials near the nest boxes. Fill a basket or suet cage with straw, short pieces of yarn or string, animal hair, short twigs and moss.

Good Luck,

John
Reply:Birds feed their young insects.

Add freeze-dried insects to your feeder table, starting in March. It could very well be the direction your birdhouses are facing; baby altricial birds can't keep themselves warm, and either need to be brooded, or need radiant warmth. You could always try moving them -- or put up more, facing in other directions.

You might also ask your neighbor if he feeds his wild birds anything special. Best of luck!!
