I have seen a rat living in my garden, hes been living under the shed for about a month and he was attracted by my bird feeders which I have now removed. I do not want to kill it, I don't see any need to, our house is detached and there are no children or bins or broken drainage or anything for it to climb into or destroy. The problem is, I was hoping it would disappear when the food was gone but I now see it climbing into the hedge and eating the berries, so it clearly doesn't want to move on. There is only 1 rat and as long as others don't come I wonder if it is ok just to ignore it? Or should I consider buying a humane trap and let it go in the woodlands? Serious answers would be helpful and remember I do not want to kill it. Thank you
What do I do with the rat in my garden?
if you don't want to kill it and it's not bothering anything.....what's the question?

Reply:From what I've heard, there's never just one rat. (If it is a rat--are you sure?) Perhaps a "have-a-hart" trap would work, but contact your local cooperative extension for suggestions. There are high-frequency sound machines that supposedly work on rodents, but I don't know if they really do--and they need to be plugged in. Maybe an exterminator could advise you about non-kill options as well.
Reply:Rats are dirty disease infected rodents. I would buy a trap and through it in the woods somewhere. I would not want it living anywhere near me.
Reply:I would use the humane trap myself. It would be just as good in the woods as it is there, maybe better.
Reply:Rats carry rabies.....trap and kill it....get over it, there are more rats in the world than you know. Liberals....get real.
Reply:buy a live trap and bait with peanut butter and bird seed. Then take it out to country somewhere far far away and let it go. Rats are very destructive and if you have one and ignore it more will come. You have already altered your life to accommodate this one creature, it will only get worse, remove it as soon as possible.
Reply:i would buy a humane trap and let it go in the woodlands .you cannot have a live rat roaming around your gardens it is unsanitary for one big reason let it go.please for your own health.
