i saw a news report talking about how land owners are building those cheap garden sheds to live in them and that it was illegal.
I only saw parts of it and not the full report.
anyone know where i can find this report or article concerning this law? This report was from NBC news in Los Angeles sometime last year.
Illegal to live in shed?
i don't know about the article, but i think that it may be illegal to due property tax laws. I know someone that lives in a trailor that he has basically converted into a really nice house, but since on the property record it is considered a trailor, he pays basically nothing in property taxes. This may be the reason it is illegal, the government wants their money!
Reply:the closest thing i heard about were people that were building houses that were less than 800 square feet. as far as i know it's not illegal. the only reason i would think they would say it's illegal would be because the property taxes would be extremely low and the govt wouldn't be able to rake in as much cash off people. saying it's illegal to live in a tiny house is like saying it's illegal to be homeless.

Reply:Without seeing the report, I would guess the reason it is illegal is because there is no water or, more importantly, no sewer hookup.
Reply:well i guess if you owned your own land and wanted to live in a shed you could. but you certainly could not rent one out.
my friends adult looser kids live in her garage because they won't work or provide for themselves.
Reply:it seems that it should only be illegal if the person inside is being neglected like an oldster but really stuff should be moved out into it and the person should be in the house.i know someone that always slept out in a bunk house or in the garage made up into a bedroom, depending on what they had.
