Please help me identify a snake spotted in Surrey, England?

I'm writing this on behalf of my dad who recently saw a snake in a back garden in Surrey.

The snake was around 3-4ft long and relatively thick (about the size of an arm). It was greenish-brown in colour and had closely spaced black chevrons running the length of its body, each one pointing in the direction of the head. The head was small, flat and diamond shaped and the neck was thinner than the rest of the body. There were no horns, crests or anything like that on the head or neck. The snake appeared to be living underneath a shed at first but later left the garden, moving relatively quickly across the grass with small zigzag movements. I think that's all.

My dad believes the snake is not indigenous to the UK since it was not an adder or grass snake. Could anybody help with identifying it please? It poses no threat as it has left the garden, but for curiosity's sake we would like to know what species it is! Bear in mind that it could be something exotic that has escaped.

the shape of head you describe sounds like a python, or even a viper.

i can't be sure, i am not an expert on snakes, i'm just going on what my friend (who breeds snakes) has explained to me.

this is a python of sorts;

the colouring sounds right, but i'm not sure about hte patterning.

though is definitely sounds as though it is not native to your area. i would suggest calling a local animal control centre to alert them of it, just incase it shows up in the wrong place where someone could get hurt.

those are burmese pythons, they somewhat match your description as well.
