Smoking ban?

Much is said about public smoking, and many people believe smokers should just smoke at home. But what about their neighbours? Our next door neighbours smoke outside their house and the smoke gets into our home and the smell is awful. They shut their door behind them but our back door is open most of the time so our 3 dogs have access to the garden anytime they need it, and I like to leave my bedroom window open all the time but the stench from the cigarettes makes me close it. I know people should do what they like in the privacy of their homes, but what about my right to leave my windows open? Incidentally, I do smoke, but never in the house and always at the far end of the garden (which is very long) behind the shed, and never if I know anyone is out in their gardens. Yes that's hypocritical, but my smoke doesn't get into anyone's home. Usually I smoke when I walk my doggies, but even then I'll put it out if I see someone approaching me.

Smoking ban?
If we are going to ban smoking because of fumes getting through your window are we also going to ban cars because of the exhaust fumes coming through?????
Reply:No, because cigarette smoke contains far more dangerous, and a greater variety of, chemicals than exhaust fumes Report Abuse
Reply:ok, so whats the question?
Reply:well to be honest you need to accept that not everyone is considerate in that way and they have every right to smoke where they want to in their own garden. all i could say to you is that you have to put up with it or shut the doors and windows.
Reply:I don't think there should be a smoking ban but I do think there should be a 3000% tax increase with all that money going to the NHS to pay for all the health services that smokers use because of smoking.
Reply:Watch out. You smoke, but because you do you don't notice the smell (yours and others).

A year ago I would have said what are you bellyaching on about.

Now I have stopped I really notice it.

I think you can buy a thing that is supposed to absorb smoke smells but I don't know if they work.
Reply:I don't smoke now but I would hate to be your neighbour. Leave the people alone and stop moaning. Mind you dint blow smoke in anyones face when you are walking your dogs. What about your dogs health?
Reply:thank u for smoking
Reply:Short of asking your neighbors to please not smoke near your windows, there's not much you can do except keep a bottle of Frebreeze (sp?) and a fan handy. As long as they are smoking on their property you can't "make" them smoke inside. If this is a problem, maybe you should get a petition going to present to your City Council that restricts smoking to within 'x' number of feet from each neighbor's property...but remember this could be applied to your smoking at the far end of your garden. Not to mention you can't control the way wind/smoke blows.

I used to smoke but quit and have been smoke-free for 8 years now and maybe because I'm a previous smoker I think I'm a little more sensitive than othersand can be sympathetic. But, let me tell you, when my neighbors smoke outside, I can smell it coming into my house (I like to leave windows open for the "fresh" air) or the minute I step outside whether they are still outside smoking or not. I can also smell the smoke when someone in the car beside me is smoking (even if the passenger window is up), passes me on the street smoking, or siting in a restaurant. There isn't a public ban on smoking here except in government buildings, hospitals, airports).
Reply:And yet you still smoke...
Reply:I thought we lived in free world? The hypocrisy of us trying to turn other countries into democratic states when we are being dictated to every day! At least they keep the taxes down "Live and let live"
Reply:you don't always smoke normal ciggies? are you a wacky backy smoker?...

i do agree that people should be more considerate about where they smoke, but there are alot of people in this world who really don't care what others think.... my parent's smoke and i am going to stay with them for one night with my 4 year old and i know they won't smoke outside if i ask them to-and that's my parent's!!
Reply:The smoking ban is ultimately a good thing but there are going to be casualties ,

I smoke so I have to accept that I now have less rights than my next door neighbours cat ,

But I can accept this because I don't want my grandchildren to smoke .

The solution to your problem would be to execute or imprison all smokers so I'd put a sock in it if I were you .
Reply:Smoking is a disgusting habit and if it were banned, I would be happy. However, where do you draw the line. Do we outlaw something which is an individuals choice, for the good of the whole. Who determines this? Surely it should be God and not wicked men who says what is right and wrong!.

Incidentally, how do you know that your smoke does'nt get into your neighbours house...I am sure it does bur because they are smokers, they are not bothered by it..
Reply:**** off and i smoke 40 a day if i lived next door iv have a bomb fire everyday
Reply:Hope you clean up after your doggies
Reply:i'm with u
Reply:I live in Scotland where smoking is banned in all public places, so move up here or just stop smoking it's vile anyway.
