Do frozen paintballs splatter?

Grandparents want a way to shoot deer off of their back porch without killing them, and were thinking of using paintballs. But if they miss they don't want to hit their shed or garden and have paint all over the place. Would freezing the paintballs leave less paint or not

Do frozen paintballs splatter?
OK i re read the question I hope you read my orignal answer but to be honest your best bet would be to buy an airsoft gun their cheaper and their ammo and is way cheaper not to meanion you have your choices of gas operated spring and battery, they wont damage the shed and would be more then enough to scare away a deer.
Reply:no ......................they hurt
Reply:Paintballs are water base so, When you freeze paintballs, they contract and so this causes them to barely roll out the barrel when you shoot. basicly you cant shoot them. And paintballs are made to break on impact so i highly doubt you could stop a deer. let alone a racoon.

I wouldnt suggest it.
Reply:Well, I don't know but I would guess that if you freeze them, they'd be hard and bullet-like and would possibly kill the deer, which I understand is not the intention.............?

It'd be a lot more messy to clean up the deer than a few paintballs...
Reply:they won't splatter depedning on how cold it is, and it might kill them, if the paintballs are frozen.
Reply:the newer answer is nuts he must not know water get big when it is freezed . but the paint is water base so if they wash it off the shed . or they can get a bb gun , a little pistol would work .
Reply:NO THAT WOULD MAKE THEM LIKE MARBLES SMARTEN UP.
Reply:no, that is why people shoot them at people that they dont like. it breaks skin and can actually kill(in extreme conditions). dont use them and dont let others use them either. i thurts really bad.
Reply:All the above answers are pretty completely false. I know this from personal experience as a competitive paintballer. We put old paint in the fridge/freezer so that they get brittle and break (splatter) MORE.

Here's what you gotta know:

Paintball shells are made of gelatin and the fill ("paint") is actually just a mix of dye and wax and usually some oil. The paintballs won't technically freeze as whole. The gelatin shell will become very very brittle and hard, which means that it will break even easier than it would if it were not frozen, ie, softer. The fill never freezes in modern paintballs, this is a myth nowadays. The fill will simply get cold and become more gooey and less runny. So if you were to freeze your paintballs, you would:

1) Make them break more and make more of a mess than if you didn't freeze them because some would bounce off objects and fall to the ground.

2) The fill will be thicker when cold and thus making it hard to wipe it off or clean it.

All in all, if you don't believe me try it, this will not work. You are better off buying an Airsoft gun or simply a cap gun to make noise. Paintballs are expensive and they will make a mess no matter what.

I do know of an alternative. There is a company that makes clear paintballs, meaning the paint inside is clear like water and will just leave a wet mark. However, these are very expensive so it is up to you. They are used mostly by military training camps and whatnot where they are just practicing and don't want to make a mess of the fields. In real paintball, the paints are bright, thick, and really hard to clean because otherwise it is easy to cheat and just wipe the hit and keep playing. Here is the website for clear paintballs:

I hope this helped. Again, if you don't believe me, go buy paintballs and freeze them and then clean up your yard anyway. It is NOT going to work no matter what. Paintballs don't turn into "marbles" or anything that is even hard at all. They will bust on impact and leave a mark.

This has been a big big myth, trust me. But no one has ever died from playing paintball except for the rare accident where someone hurts themselves running or jumping. And there have been a few idiots who don't know how to take care of their gas tanks. But as far as paintballs go, it is very safe.

Everyone else: Stop answering questions you have no clue about.
