I've come across something called Neptune Topaz or Neptune's Garden topaz on various gemstone sites. Although there doesn't seem to be any kind of explanation of what it is or how its created. The only references to it I can find are on various dodgy shopping channels and nobody seems to be able to tell me what it is. Wikipedia (the fountain of knowledge) has no record of it. All I can assume is that its a kind of Mystic Topaz that is created differently, or its just a fancy name shopping sites use to sell a highly treated stone. Can anyone shed any light on this?
What exactly is Neptune Topaz?
A Neptune Topaz is just an ordinary topaz that some marketing add man has given a fancy name to a particular shade of colour. You mentioned a Mystic Topaz, a Mystic Topaz is a particular type of topaz that has been artificially coloured and enhanced by man. A word of caution, I am a working jeweller and once I sized a ring with a large pink topaz set in it. Once a ring has been sized it needs to be polished and cleaned, I use an ultra sonic cleaner, a stranded in the industry. All that is in the cleaner is water and washing up liquid. The stone came out colourless, it only had a pink lacquer on its surface that easily came off. If you are thinking of buying one of these so called Neptune Topazes you need to think carefully and ask the following questions.
1. Is it a natural stone, and if so has it been treated in any way. If the stone has been treated is the treatment permanent.
2. Is it an artificial or man made topaz. This is not as bad as it seems. The stone will still be a real topaz its just that it has been grown in a lab some where. And as such will be many times cheaper than a natural stone.
Reply:I think its just another name for blue topaz.
Reply:all of the above but for sure proof try tuning into the gems channel on sky page 646 %26amp;660 get their web site and check it out. They cover everything about most gems esp. Topaz.
Reply:all topaz' are neptune, not from neptune but there is also a specific type of neptune topaz which is yellowy blue (mainly blue ), and is very shiny.
