If your teenage daughter were to sleep in your backyard garden shed/treehouse would you come by and make sure the door was closed and lights were out?
A teenage girl I know wants to sleep in her parents garden shed/garage on some weekends? Her mother wants to make sure the door is closed and lights are out for her safety. The garage/garden shed is a seperate building from the house. The girl enjoys this place as indendance. Even though her parents worry about her for her safety she doesn't like the idea that her mother comes by at night to close the door to the outside and turn out the lights. Even though her mother locks the building door the girl can still open and unlock the door.
This girl is only 15 years old. Should she still continue to enjoy this garage/garden shed or give up?
If your teenager daughter were to sleep in the backyard treehouse at night would you close the door?

Reply:chances are shes not sleeping there..
shes probabaly sneeking out.
i wouldnt even let her sleep out there..
im 15 and the only reason id sleep outside alone is if i was going to sneak out od have somone come to me.
Reply:This girl is sneaking out of that tree house after lights out and doing god knows what with god knows who. If it was just a case of privacy she would shut her bedroom door. The whole world cant be that naive.
Reply:In this day in age I would be very worried to let my child stay outside separate from the home unless I KNEW it was secure (and just as secure as the house). I would be afraid every night of someone getting back there somehow and doing something to her to cause harm.
But if the building is secure and the mother has an open relationship with the daughter to where there is a great level of trust, I see nothing wrong with it. I would make sure there is a great deal of communication between the mother and daughter (and possibly the rest of the family), which it doesn't really sound like there is that openness and understanding if daughter is still getting upset at mum for checking on the lights and locks. Mum should explain to her that it is very important for her security that she keep the door locked and lights out after a certain time and that mum is only doing that for daughter's safety.
Reply:she could be out there drinking or having sex.
Reply:Why can't she just shut the door and turn the light off herself if she dosen't want her mom doing it. I would never sleep outside but whatever she likes, it's like camping in a way just in her backyard...seems safe enough.
Reply:oh gosh, i'd be scared, but hey, i know people that do it all the time. and their shed is beside the house with no gates surrounding it, but we hang out there and sometimes one or two people just fall asleep and leave in the morning. not the best of neighborhoods, but nothing's happened to them.
i'd be more worried she's sneaking someone in though. just a thought.
